The Assistant Deputy Minister for the BC Corrections Branch, Brent MERCHANT, has FAILED to initiate an INDEPENDENT, IMPARTIAL INQUIRY into bullying, intimidation and unfair hiring practices within the BC Community Corrections division. Instead, he has referred the matter to his cronies in the BC Public Service Agency …. the management-biased agency that has been encouraging the bullying in the first place !!! Over one month ago I wrote to Mr. Merchant expressing these serious concerns about the perception of impropriety and bias in ANY investigation by the PSA. There has been no response from the ADM.
Brent Merchant has a LEGISLATED MANDATE to ensure all policies, practices and procedures falling within his mandate are fair and free of the perception of conflict. Brent Merchant has failed in this also. Even when pointed out to him, Brent Merchant has continued to operate with the intent to “win” as opposed to the intent to ensure administrative fairness for ALL Community Corrections employees. Wow. WOW !!!
My recommendation to ANYONE WHO ASKS is to AVOID THIS EMPLOYER LIKE THE PLAGUE. The BC Community Corrections division is working and bullying it’s employees INTO THE GROUND. The BC AUDITOR GENERAL has clearly advised the BC Community Corrections division they need to develop a way to accurately measure the workload of each employee such that the assignment of work is fair and reasonable. To date … over one year later … NADA. NOTHING.
The BC Community Corrections division has admitted they have a HUGE employee retention problem resulting in HUGE costs to the taxpayer. Still the lack of action suggests this colossal waste of taxpayer’s dollars continues. WHAT GIVES MR. MERCHANT??? Is your SILENCE the best you can do ???

For some time now many senior staff have agreed the BC Community Corrections division has a CRISIS OF LEADERSHIP. Even Provincial Director, BILL SMALL, among others, is now under investigation by the RCMP yet HE has not been suspended without pay as other, more lowly employees, certainly would be. Double Standard? Nothing unusual for CHRISTIE CLARK’S LIBERAL LIARS.
Continued intimidation, harassment and bullying of staff by Provincial Director, Bill Small, and by Vancouver Metro Regional Manager, Dave Vallance, suggests even Assistant Deputy Minister, Brent Merchant, remains indifferent to these concerns.
The BC Liberal government, under the leadership of Christie Clark, oversees these polices and ALLOWS this massive waste of taxpayer’s dollars. Yet they insist they are fiscally responsible.
